This car was the 21st Z-28 ever built (white with red interior). It was painted to look like an SS 350 at its first race so that it looked similar to the cars that the Chitwoods were using in their "Thrillshows" (stunt driving).

The stars and striping that run the length of the car were added after Daytona, again to be similar to their stunt cars. This photo is taken at the Paul Revere 250, a Daytona race which started at midnight, July 3rd, 1967. The legendary stock car veteran Curtis "Pops" Turner did the driving for this particular race.

Joie Chitwood Jr.(driver)

This photo was taken February 4th 1967 at the car's second race, the Daytona 24hr Continental. It's first race was Feb 3rd in the Daytona 4-hr Trans-Am race. The car was driven by Joie Chitwood Jr. and Jack McClure, both of Tampa, Florida. It is shown pacing the Chaparral 2F of Phil Hill and Mike Spence. You can see that the car is painted like an SS and the typical Chitwood striping running the length of the car had not been added yet. The car does not have an SS hood or any engine ID badges on the front fender, but SS fender emblems were added.

Here's a shot of the car at the 1968 Daytona 24hr Continental race, Feb 3, 1968. Drivers were Joie Chitwood, Jr and Buzz Barton, both of Tampa, Florida. The photo shows the Chitwood/Barton Camaro getting into the dirt along with the Triumph TR-4 (Car #48) of Doyle Poole and Dick Kipling.
