Owner: Ken Boje, Shoreview, Mn. This is the 1968 AHRA Top stock World Points Champion, which was owned by Fred Gibb, owner of Gibb Chevrolet in LaHarpe, Illinois. The car was driven by Herb Fox, and race prepared by Dick Harrell in 1967 and 1968. Posted times for the car was reported to be 11.70's for the 1/4 mile during the 1968 race season. The car was sold, as raced, to Lloyd W. Kirchhoff after the 1968 race season. This was prior to Fred Gibb accepting shipment of his 1969 ZL1 Camaro #1. (Yes it was #1). This car was also driven by Herb Fox initially, and prepared by Dick Harrell. Look here for more documentation and pictures in the "Full Race" section.
The car was originally royal plum with a black vinyl top (M2). Some time prior to the 1968 race season, the car was painted Chevrolet truck red as seen here. This car run a factory cross-ram Chevrolet manifold. I have a shipping receipt and factory documentation where Fred Gibb signed for the cross-ram in early 1968. It is possible that this car was used as a test bed for the manifold, and is probably the first engine used on the drag strip to receive one.
Here is the engine bay. Ken installed a brand new 1967 302 engine. BRAND NEW... He bought the engine and disassembled and reassembled it with the cross ram as raced. Fortunately Ken took pictures of the engine as it was taken apart. You will find them in the tech info area.
